In light of the unprecedented economic and humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing aggression and the tightened blockade, the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in the Gaza Strip are following with great concern the worsening cash liquidity crisis and its serious repercussions on citizens’ lives, market stability, and the continuity of providing essential goods and services.
The Chambers affirm that the liquidity crisis has become an increasing burden on citizens amid rising living costs and declining purchasing power. They stress that enhancing the circulation of available currencies within markets, along with expanding the use of available electronic payment methods, represents one of the possible means to alleviate the severity of the crisis and ensure the continuity of commercial activity.
Accordingly, the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in the Gaza Strip call upon:
Merchants and shop owners to facilitate the circulation of available currencies, accept them in daily transactions, and enhance reliance on electronic payment methods whenever possible.
Honorable citizens to act positively and responsibly in circulating available currencies and to encourage the use of electronic payment methods.
All relevant stakeholders to assume their responsibilities, work toward sustainable solutions to the liquidity crisis, and support the necessary infrastructure to expand the scope of electronic payments.
The Chambers also emphasize the necessity of exerting further pressure by official authorities and relevant international institutions to allow the entry of cash currency into the Gaza Strip, considering this an urgent demand to ensure a minimum level of market stability and to prevent further deterioration of the economic and humanitarian crisis.
The Chambers of Commerce stress that overcoming this critical phase requires concerted efforts, prioritizing the public interest, and adopting flexible and integrated solutions that alleviate citizens’ suffering and preserve economic stability in the Gaza Strip.
