The Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture in the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with the Palestine Monetary Authority, organized a specialized workshop addressing the current state of banking services and electronic payment systems in the Gaza Strip. The workshop was attended by the President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture, Mr. Abdo Idris, as well as chairpersons and members of the boards of the Chambers of Commerce, including the President of the Rafah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Fathi Salim Qeshta, who participated via Zoom from the Arab Republic of Egypt. The workshop also included representatives of operating banks, electronic payment service providers, telecommunications companies, the commercial sector, and several international organizations working in the sector.
The workshop was held within the framework of joint efforts to enhance coordination and cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce, the Palestine Monetary Authority, and the banking sector, with the aim of discussing the challenges facing traders and economic establishments under the current economic conditions, particularly those related to banking services and electronic transactions.
The workshop sessions addressed the reality of banking services in the Gaza Strip, the challenges associated with implementing electronic payment systems, and their impact on commercial activity and market movement, in addition to discussing several practical observations related to the execution of daily financial transactions.
At the conclusion of the workshop, a set of proposals and recommendations was reviewed, which will be followed up in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders, contributing to the development of banking services, the expansion of electronic payment usage, and the support of economic activity continuity across all governorates of the Gaza Strip, including Rafah.
